Academic Integrity

We will follow the Emory University Honor Code. I take plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty very seriously. Should you engage in academic dishonesty in this course, you will receive and F.

Attendance

As this class relies on in-class writing, group discussion, and workshopping, consistent attendance is required. Coming in late or leaving early are disruptive and disrespectful and if it becomes a problem, each occurrence will count as an absence. More than three missed classes will lower your final course grade by a letter grade. Missing more than 20% of class meetings may result in a failing grade for the course. See me if you feel your situation warrants an exception to this rule.

If you know that you will miss a class, email me. You are responsible for knowing what’s going on in class and what you missed, and be sure to turn in whatever work might be due on time. You are responsible for keeping track of your absences.

Late Work

Work is considered late if it is not submitted at the beginning of class on the due date, or by the date and time specified. Homework will not be accepted late. Major compositions submitted late will be penalized 15% per day late, including weekends. Papers turned in more than 48 hours late will not be accepted. If you feel that your situation warrants an exception, please see me.

Domain of One’s Own

This course is part of the Domain of One’s Own project. You will build and maintain a personal website and compose with a variety of digital tools. No prior experience with web design or digital authoring is required for successful completion of course work. You work will be published to the web and available to audiences beyond the class and university.

Public Nature of the Course

Please consider all writing for this class to be “public.” Part of becoming an effective writer is learning to appreciate the ideas and feedback of others. In this course, our purpose is to come together as a writing community. Avoid writing about topics that you wish to keep private or that you feel so strongly about that you are unwilling to listen to the perspectives of others.
